Bookface Friday
Frida by ClaireFrida by Claire#bookface Berest
This is the story of Diego and Frida, who couldn`t live without each other.
They meet at a party. She knows everything about him, about his mythology, and he knows nothing of her, she is nobody.
He is Mexico`s greatest artist. She drinks like a sailor, wears flowers in her hair, talks openly about sex, loves attending protests and parties to wake the dead. She is from Coyoacan, twenty years his junior and with a broken spine to boot.
Even when her body is wracked with pain, she paints.
There were two great accidents in her life. The first was when that streetcar hit her . . . but by far the worst was meeting him.
Translated into English for the first time, Claire Berest`s award-winning novel is a striking fictional imagining of the vibrant life and tumultuous marriage of one of the world`s most beloved artists: Frida Kahlo.

Bookshelf confession: Shock of the Light by @loriinglishall
A powerful WWII historical fiction that brings overlooked details and post-war realities to life with real sensitivity and depth. A truly enriching read.

The Farmer`s Pyjamas by @ruthpaulbooks
What fun! A rhyming story with lots of cutely illustrated farm animals (I particularly enjoyed the three cheeky llamas).
This poor sleep-deprived farmer keeps getting her tasks more and more wrong as the days go on and she can’t find her favourite pyjamas. When the mistakes include forgetting dinner the farm animals decide enough is enough and help search too.
Look out for an adorable surprise when the missing pyjamas are found!

Thanks Kerry.
"Farrell`s Bookshop Is an excellent bookshop and well worth a visit if you`re travelling down the Mornington Peninsula. Also look out for their author events. Even though I don`t live in the area anymore, I would travel down for their events."
Yesteryear by @caroclaireburke
Just finished Yesteryear and can’t stop thinking about it. A sharp, unsettling look at the romanticizing of pioneer life, trad wives, and “Christian values” and the cost of all of it beneath the aesthetic.
Felt like somewhere between Ballerina Farm and Ruby Franke. I had so many questions while reading, but the ending tied it together perfectly.
One of those books that gets darker the more you sit with it.
